In Pursuit of Love, Spirituality and Happiness

Genre: Fiction
Author: Gita Audhya

When you feel trapped in your own life, a journey is often the only way to see things clearly.

Jonathan has led a comfortable existence. His family's wealth has kept him provided for, but with that status come certain expectations. In a rare moment of rebellion, he flies to Hawaii to take in the sights, and runs headlong into destiny.

In Pursuit is a love letter to Hawaii, both as a place and a state of mind. However, that does not necessarily translate well into fiction. Audhya's prose is rich, breathing life into her setting, but her characters are lacking in depth, and their dialogue is not as natural as it could be. The characters are there to explain things, to make points on behalf of the author. This is a common technique in fiction, but in this case the reader is constantly being reminded of it. Audhya clearly has talent, and passion for her subject, but might be better suited to non-fiction , specifically personal travel writing.

Gita Audhya has traveled from India to the UK, and then to the United States in pursuit of her dreams. She still travels frequently with her husband.

In Pursuit of Love, Spirituality and Happiness is a meditation on the wonder of life and the present moment, but its author might be more at home in a different genre. Audyha's debut is an Average read.
